Murderville | Cast | Plot | Wiki | News | More

“Murderville” is a semi-improvised comedy/murder-mystery that’s as weird and messy as it sounds. The fun idea is more important than the hit-or-miss execution. Will Arnett is a constant in this US version of a British format. The show is somewhere between a good “SNL” sketch and a bad TV show when it’s long.

Moreover, He plays snarling police detective Terry Seattle, who takes on different celebrities as trainees in each of the six episodes, and this is what the show is about. Arnett and the rest of the cast have a script, but the guests don’t, so they have to go with the flow and try to solve the case by picking one of three suspects.

Not surprisingly, the guests have a wide range of comedic results, but the producers do everything they can to get them off their game and not only make them laugh. For example, Arnett smothers Conan O’Brien’s food with hot sauce and keeps asking Sharon Stone if she’s in love with him.

Annie Murphy, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, and Marshawn Lynch are also in this first batch of episodes.

Murderville

Why Murderville Famous For?

Based on an award-winning BBC show called Murder in Successville, the show falls into a growing subgenre of reality/scripted hybrids. Each guest walks through who they think the killer is before the killer is revealed.

Arnett has to do most of the work to keep the silliness level high, and even though he can vamp like the best of them, the process doesn’t always pay off. Indeed, this is one of those shows where watching a few at a time rather than binge-watching helps a lot because watching more than one at a time quickly becomes boring.

Netflix has a point for trying something a little different, but the end result mostly shows that being silly is hard work. The show is a good place to go, but it doesn’t make you laugh enough to stay for long, so it’s not worth it.

Netflix will show “Murderville” on Feb. 3.

Will Arnett stars in Netflix’s new procedural crime comedy. The six-episode series premieres Thursday, Feb. 3. Senior Detective Terry Seattle is on a mission to solve the town’s most difficult murder cases. Also, there are going to be different celebrity guest stars as his partners in each case, like Annie Murphy from Schitt’s Creek, Ken Jeong from Community, Kumail Nanjiani from Silicon Valley, and Marshawn Lynch, a former NFL running back, who will be his partner in each case. He’ll also have a new partner each time.

What’s the deal? Also, there will be no scripts for each episode. Officially, it says that “They have no idea what is going to happen to them.” As a group, they will have to come up with a way through the case, but each guest will have to name the killer alone.
