Penny Dreadful Season 4 Reason For Delay Or Not Coming
Almost every fan of Penny Dreadful was shocked when their favorite series had a shocking conclusion earlier this summer.
In contrast to Game of Thrones protracted farewell, Penny Dreadful ended abruptly without warning at the end of its third season.
It was always the writer John Logan’s intention to finish Penny Dreadful with the passing of the mystic Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), according to Showtime programming head Gary Levine, who made this revelation this week at the TCA press tour.

“I was trying to leave the door open for going beyond, but as we were entering that final season, it became clear that the pairing of that character and John as a writer was the heart of the show, so it seemed like it was going to be foolish to continue going,” the author said.
The death of Vanessa Ives was planned, he continued. The concern that arose for us at that point was, “Is there a future for the series beyond both Vanessa Ives and John Logan’s writing? “And we believed that by doing so, the series would simply lose its realism. Therefore, it was a shifting objective, which is why we decided to discontinue it in part.
Even star Billie Piper was shocked by Penny Dreadful’s abrupt cancellation; it wasn’t just the viewers who were taken by surprise.
As performers, it was “pretty upsetting,” but in a way, Piper added, “I think it sort of worked” since everyone’s tale was wrapped up and no one anticipated the conclusion. “In that case, they essentially won.
