Netflix has been hosting “Shadow and Bone” episodes for nearly a year now. This is all we know about when “Shadow and Bone Season 3” will premiere.
The popular fantasy series was renewed for Shadow and Bone Season 3 by Netflix in June 2021, and the news was announced in a YouTube video with the cast members discussing their anticipation for the upcoming episodes.
Calahan Skogman, who plays Matthias, is excited to return to work on the project and bring Season 3 to life.
In June, after months of filming, the cast and crew of Season 3 published a video on the official NetflixGeeked Twitter account to announce the completion of production.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 About What?
Eric Heisserer created the American fantasy series Shadow and Bone for Netflix. It’s based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse books, namely her Shadow and Bone trilogy (2012-2014) and Six of Crows duology (2015-2016). (2015–2016). On April 23, 2021, all eight episodes of the first season debuted. A Shadow and Bone Season 3 of the show, likewise consisting of eight episodes, was ordered back in June 2021.
Alina Starkov, a young orphan and cartographer for the First Army of the Ravka nation, finds out she is a Grisha—a being with extraordinary abilities who has been awaited for eons to solve a cosmic crisis. The first season is based on the novels Shadow and Bone (2013) and adds its own plot revolving around the criminal gang known as the Crows. For season two, they’re adapting Siege and Storm (2013) and writing their own story about the Crows.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Plotline
Even though Netflix hasn’t released an official synopsis, we can probably anticipate what Season 3 of Shadow and Bone will be about. What happened last season was that Alina’s collarbone absorbed some magical stag antlers, the Darkling widened the Shadow Fold, and Alina and Mal escaped for the time being from Kirigan’s immortal grasp.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Cast And Main Lead
Season 3 of Shadow and Bone will feature both returning cast members and brand new additions to the group. Several original cast members have been confirmed for the sequel, as was indicated above. Tolya Yul-Bataar, Tamar Kir-Bataar, Wylan Van Eck, and Nikolai Lantsov are only a few names to mention. These are the Twitter-confirmed cast members for each role:

- Patrick Gibson vs. Nikolai Lantsov
- For Tolya Yul-Bataar, see Lewis Tan.
- Anna Leong Brophy’s character, Tamar Kir-Bataar
- Jack Wolfe – Wylan Van Eck
In Season 3 of Shadow and Bone, Nikolai will emerge as an influential ally for Alina and a new romantic interest for her. Grisha Tolya and Tamar are a part of Nikolai’s crew when he goes on his sea adventures under the alias Sturmhond.
As he joins forces with the Six of Crows, Wylan will be seen on the other side of the Fold. Calahan Skogman, who plays Matthias Helvar on the program, teased a heist on Instagram, although it’s not clear if this will be in keeping with his introduction in the books. Maybe there’s still a chance that the group’s journey to the Ice Court may be brought to life in some form or another.
No matter what happens, we’ll be on the lookout for information about when Season 3 of Shadow and Bone will premiere and what to expect from it. I hope Netflix announces more information shortly.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Netflix Updates
Shadow and Bone Season 3 will not premiere on Netflix in August 2022. Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows are two of Leigh Bardugo’s popular Grishaverse book series, so it’s no surprise that the first season of the original fantasy series based on these books was an instant smash when it debuted on Netflix. Fans and critics alike applauded the show, so they naturally want to know when Season 3 will be available.
Though it’s upsetting, we aren’t too surprised that Netflix won’t be streaming the Shadow and Bone Season 3 this month. Production on the latest episodes barely completed up in June, so it could be a while before we see our favourite characters again. I know this is a big question, but when do you think we may expect the next Shadow and Bone book to come out? See for yourself below!

Shadow and Bone Season 1 Recap
Ravka, Fjerda, Shu Han, Kerch, Novyi Zem, and the Wandering Isle are all different countries in the Grisha universe. They all borrow slightly from actual countries’ languages, customs, and cultures (drawn from different real-time periods). The Grisha are sometimes referred to as “magic-users,” but they refer to themselves as practitioners of “The Small Science,” which represents the unique ability each Grisha possesses to influence matter at the molecular level.
Since most Grisha are “found as children by roaming Grisha testers and transported to… [train in that nation’s] third Army,” Ravka is the country most likely to have Grisha residents. It’s one of the few places they can call home, and it’s also where the three orders they use to train for the third Army operate from. To perform their magic, Etherealki call upon the elements of the air, fire, and earth, while Materialki wield power over man-made substances like metal and glass, and Corporalki control the physical form of their victims.
General Kirigan, head of Ravka’s third Army, has spent his entire life looking for a Grisha who can summon light, the only person who can destroy the Shadow Fold (or “the Fold”), a region of engulfing darkness that was created hundreds of years ago and divides Ravka into two, the east from the west. Since then, conflict has raged across Ravka, and the country is on the verge of splitting in two as the western half agitates for independence.
Alina Starkov is revealed to be a Grisha, and the news of the discovery of a Sun Summoner quickly travels. Kaz Brekker, head of the Crows, is recruited by someone in the Kerch capital and trading city of Ketterdam to abduct her; witch hunters are dispatched from Fjerdan to kill her; the people of Ravka hold her in high esteem and treat her like a Saint. As she seeks the strength that would allow her to destroy the Fold and free Ravka, Alina must come to terms with who she is and decide whom she can trust.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Where To Watch?
Of course, everyone is eagerly awaiting information on when Shadow and Bone Season 3 will be available on Netflix, but so far, the streaming service has been silent on the subject. Despite this, we may be able to give you a ballpark estimate of when the new episodes will be available to watch.
The cast of the Netflix series declared through Twitter on June 6, 2022 that production on Season 3 has ended. While this is excellent news for production, it’s important to remember that the time it takes to complete a show’s post-production increases significantly when special effects are included.
It’s still possible that the show will premiere in the late winter of 2022, although it seems doubtful at this point. Shadow and Bone is most likely to return to Netflix in 2023. Since the premiere of Season 1 occurred on April 23, 2021, the premiere of Season 3 might occur as soon as the beginning of the third quarter of 2021 or as late as the end of the first quarter. It’s important to note that this is only a guess on our part, and we could be completely wrong. Don’t forget to return for further Season 3 of Shadow and Bone news.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Ratings
Critical consensus favours Shadow and Bone. On Rotten Tomatoes, the average score was 7.2 out of 10 based on 75 reviews, for an approval rating of 88%. Based on the reviews posted on one website, the general opinion is that “Shadow and Bone is certainly as meticulous as its source material, from gorgeous costumes to impressive—if intimidating—world-building.
However, by folding in unexpected stories, it expands the novel’s scope to craft an exciting new adventure for fans and newcomers alike.” The series received “generally positive reviews,” according to Metacritic’s weighted average score of 68 out of 100 based on 22 reviews.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Based On?
This is a crossover between two of Bardugo’s book series: the fantasy-adventure trilogy Shadow and Bone and the duology Six of Crows, which is set in the same universe but occurs after the events of Shadow and Bone in terms of time. According to Heisserer, the showrunners effectively made up prequel storylines for Kaz, Inej, and Jesper, the three most important characters in this season’s Six of Crows, so that it would all make sense with what’s going on in the Shadow and Bone plot.
The showrunner discussed his introduction to the novels, his proposal to Netflix for three seasons, and the power of social media thanks in landing a job during an on-set group interview with Heisserer.
Heisserer explained, “I set out a three-year strategy, or a three-season plan.” I made a New Year’s goal three years ago to read more for fun, and that was the seed that grew into this whole thing. I wasn’t devoting nearly enough time to it, and whenever I read something for school or work, my mind immediately starts wondering, “Ooh, can this be modified or…” Oh, I’m just looking for some good times!
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Filming Location
Production on the first season’s 13 episodes began in Budapest and Keszthely (Festetics Palace), Hungary in October 2019 and finished at the end of February 2020. Some supplementary filming also occurred in British Columbia’s largest city, Vancouver. On June 6, 2022, production ceased on Shadow and Bone Season 3.

Shadow and Bone Season 3 Trailer
As of this writing, Netflix has not made available the trailer for Shadow and Bone Season 3. But don’t think for a third that Netflix hasn’t been advertising the show. The streaming service released several entertaining videos, including a bloopers reel, from the first season a month before the announcement teaser for the third season.

Conclusion-
After watching the preview for this episode, I was immediately interested in the story. It was nice to see a YA fantasy adaption that looked like it had a decent budget and was beautifully made. Later that day, I dove into the first book in the trilogy, which just made me more psyched about the play.
And I’m relieved to report that after reading the book, my expectations were not dashed. All of the characters in Shadow and Bone are well-developed and inhabit a fascinating and unique world.
Even if it uses cliches like the “chosen one” motif, that doesn’t mean it’s bad. On the whole, though, I thought the execution was satisfactory. All the bases are covered in this show, including action, adventure, magic, and of course, romance. I thought the show’s ships were fantastic and true to their novel versions.
Additionally, I appreciated that the TV show was able to provide more depth to the characters than the books did. Seeing so many fresh faces was a treat, and the performance is superb. I really appreciated how much effort everyone in the cast clearly put into bringing their roles to life. The camerawork was also a *mwah* kiss from the chefs. That was wonderful, and the CGI was done beautifully.
I have a few issues with the pacing, but I get that they had to prioritise; they could only afford to do 8 episodes. So, I am looking forward to the upcoming season immensely, especially the introduction of new characters. Those who enjoy reading can guess who I’m referring to.
