The Boogeyman Plotline
A name like that might make you think the story’s subject is obvious at first glance, but any Stephen King fan knows better than to take a title at face value. Let’s go back to the beginning of the story so we can get a feel for the atmosphere.
Lester Billings, the protagonist of the short tale, is attending a psychiatrist because he is certain that “The Boogeyman” is after him and his family for the murder of his three kids.
Strange occurrences occurred in the context of each of their deaths. Each child, he tells his psychiatrist Dr. Harper, screamed “Boogeyman” when he put them to bed the night they died. The wardrobe doors in their rooms, he insists, were locked, yet he always found them open when he discovered their bodies. He believes The Boogeyman was responsible for their deaths, even though “crib death” and “convulsions” were listed as the official causes of death.
As a result of the loss of their first two children, Lester and his wife decide to relocate to a new place. His pregnancy with their son Andy is unexpectedly rapid, and they both immediately begin making plans for his safety. Nevertheless, she needs to go to a sick relative and will be gone for some time, leaving the man to care for his little child alone. He worries for his life when she’s not around since The Boogeyman seems more powerful and menacing without her. As a result of the creature’s threats, Andy is isolated from the rest of the family for the first time since his birth.
He investigates a commotion and scares off The Boogeyman after seeing him strike his son. Andy tried to get out of his cot and broke his neck, according to the police, but Lester knows differently. As he walks out the door, Dr. Harper suggests he schedule a follow-up visit. Not long after, Lester has a question and visits the doctor, only to discover The Boogeyman waiting for him, now unmasked as “Dr. Harper.”
This was the primary focus of the original Stephen King short tale, but the film appears to take a totally different direction. The children’s voices seem to be at the centre of this adaptation. A teenage girl and her younger sister try to convince their mourning father to take action after they become convinced a malicious spirit has crept into their home following their mother’s untimely and terrible death.
The Boogeyman is tormenting this poor family because he enjoys the suffering and terror it causes. It’s possible he murdered the mother, too.

The Boogeyman Cast And Main Lead
While we don’t know what most of the major characters are called just yet, the synopsis does provide some insight into their relationships with one another.
The role of the distraught dad will be played by Chris Messina. Most people recognise Messina from his portrayal as the detective dealing with the death of his wife and son in the M. Night Shyamalan film Devil. Among other films and TV shows he has been in include the DC Comics adaptation Birds of Prey, as well as Sharp Objects, I Care A Lot, The Mindy Project, Argo, and Live By Night.
His daughters will be played by Yellowjackets members Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box). Blair and Thatcher have both made appearances in Disney’s Star Wars canon. Both Thatcher and Blair have appeared in Star Wars films; the former played Drash in The Book of Boba Fett, and the latter was a young Princess Leia in the Obi-Wan Kenobi films.
David Dastmalchian will also appear in The Boogeyman, but in a character he hasn’t been given a name for just yet. As an actor, he is most recognised for his supporting appearances in films like The Ant-Man Films, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Dune, and The Dark Knight, in which he typically plays a villainous character.
In addition, Madison Hu (Voyagers) and Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy) have been cast in roles as yet undetermined.
LisaGay Hamilton, who starred in “The Sum of All Fears,” is set to play Dr. Weller. There is some mystery as to whether or not her character will be a medical doctor or a character similar to Dr. Harper from the source short story.
