Considering what a dismal place Gilead is to visit, this is welcome news for fans of The Handmaid’s Tale: the programme has been renewed for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5! The actors announced the show’s continuation in December 2020 even before season four had begun.
“We are pleased to be able to continue to tell these tales with our wonderful cast and crew, and can’t wait to be back on the air with season four next year,” showrunner Bruce Miller told The Hollywood Reporter.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Happen Or Not?
Yes, there will be The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 of the popular Hulu series.
Hulu teased the upcoming season’s first look and release date on Instagram in June 2022. June is shown circling up in white as Serena smiles and looks down while wearing a black veil in the image.
Fans will recall that June and her fellow handmaids killed Commander Fred Waterford and delivered his finger to then-pregnant Serena, who was granted freedom in Canada at the end of the fourth season.
The two-episode debut will begin on Wednesday, September 14, and new episodes will be released monthly, according to the streaming site. It is yet to be stated what the UK release date will be, but we can expect it to air on Channel 4 soon after the US debut date.

In an interview with TV Line earlier this year, Elisabeth Moss, who portrays June, said: ‘I will say that the season itself is maybe one of the crazier trips that we’ve had.’ The amount of events that take place varies from season to season. I’m struggling to keep up with everything that’s going on this season.
This is not just empty words. There is so much going on that it’s practically impossible for me to keep up.
This has been thrilling and demanding at the same time since it means that we’re working really hard and spending a lot of time on site, which can be exhausting. However, I would describe it as ‘never a boring moment.’
During an appearance on The View in March of 2022, Samira Wiley, who portrays Moira on the programme, gave viewers a taste of what to anticipate in the fifth season.
As Wiley put it, “We’re taking up right where we left off.” Commander Waterford’s fate was known to anyone who saw the season finale. That means June is in a bit of danger, as always.’
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Release Date
It’s a blessing to be alive today! Season five’s premiere date has been officially announced.
On September 14, 2022, Hulu will launch the next season with a two-part opening episode. There hasn’t been a UK release date set yet, but it will air on Channel 4 shortly after the US release, as has been done in the past.
“June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while attempting to reestablish her identity and purpose,” reads a teaser from Hulu.
Serena, newly widowed, is trying to make a name for herself in Toronto as Gilead’s power grows. Uncle Lydia assists Commander Lawrence in his efforts to restructure Gilead and consolidate his position of power. Hannah’s effort to save and reconcile with her mother is being pursued by June, Luke, and Moira from afar.
The episode was taped in Ontario, Canada, as usual.
From the middle of February through the middle of March, the Brantford region was the site of production for the television series Ruby Road. There is speculation that The Handmaid’s Tale is being produced under the codename “Ruby Road.”
An further announcement stated that filming will take place on a number of streets and at a private property in Brantford, one of the numerous places the programme has used in the Ontario area previously. They pledged to keep the noise level down for the neighbours (at least during the evenings).
The actress who portrays Aunt Lydia, Ann Dowd, recently told The Independent that filming will begin in February 2022.
Brugel also released a video on February 9 of her on the set of the fifth season, which was designated “season 5” and had a chair marked with her character’s name, Rita.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Cast And Main Lead
However, even if June has fled to Canada, that doesn’t imply that every character is completely secure in Gilead.
After all, it appears like these characters will all be back in season five of The Handmaid’s Tale:
- June Osborne played by Elisabeth Moss
- Serena Joy Waterford is played by Yvonne Strahovski.
- In the role of Janine, Madeline Brewer portrays
- Actress Ann Dowd portrays Aunt Lydia in the film.
- Luke, played by O-T Fagbenle
- Nick is played by Max Minghella.
- starring Samira Wiley in the role of Moira
- Bradley Whitford in the role of Captain Lawrence
- Amanda Brugel takes on the role of Rita.
Christine Ko, star of Hawaii Five-0, has been added to the Handmaid roster.
As Lily, Christine Ko, who is also a cast member of the popular comedy series Dave, will appear on the show on a regular basis. There’s little question Lily will heighten the tension on the show, as she’s been characterised as “a tough, savvy Gilead immigrant who is now a leader in the resistance movement.”
Genevieve Angelson, of New Amsterdam, has been cast in a recurring role as well.
While being a Serena Joy Waterford impersonator, Mrs Wheeler is also the main force behind Gilead’s ascent in Toronto, according to TVLine’s sources.
By posting “Blessed be the project reveal” next to a photo of herself in costume, Angelson revealed her involvement earlier this month.
Emily Malek, played by Alexis Bledel, will not be returning to The Handmaid’s Tale (also known as Ofglen, Ofsteven, Ofroy and Ofjoseph across the series).
“After much thinking, I felt I had to walk aside from The Handmaid’s Tale at this time,” she said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. I will be forever grateful to Bruce Miller, Hulu, MGM, and the whole cast and crew for their help in bringing Emily’s tale to life.
Beyond declaring that she “needed to step aside,” Bledel provided no other explanation for her departure from the show. It’s also not clear if the role will be written out or recast with a new actress, as well.
There’s a chance that Emily may either depart following her retribution or go missing in the upheaval of season 5, both of which would leave the door open for a possible return in season 5. As for what the show actually does, we’ll have to wait and see.
Joseph Fiennes, who plays Fred Waterford, is another key cast member who will not be returning in the present. June recruited the help of her fellow survivors to ultimately avenge the killing of the Commander in the no man’s land between Gilead and Canada at the end of season four.
Even though June was abused by Fred, we wouldn’t be shocked if he shows up in flashbacks or in June’s dreams from time to time.
We’ll “definitely” see Fred return, according to showrunner Bruce Miller, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly. I mean, I would die if I didn’t see Joe [Fiennes] again. He’s a kind and considerate performer who works hard. He’s a lovely guy locked in a role that requires him to portray a monster.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Plotline
Considering how season four ended, you should expect a lot of drama.
June tells her husband Luke: ‘I know.’ as the third season comes to a close. Please accept my apologies.
‘I’ll be back in a few minutes.’ Just five minutes with her and I’ll be on my way.’
As a result of killing Fred Waterford, she has no idea where she’ll go from here.
If the pandemic had not occurred, Miller told THR, he would have come up with a whole new The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5. This year is a good opportunity to evaluate, even if we’ve talked about it before, including with Lizzie, and with the writing staff and me.
Now that I’m aware of where I am in the narrative, I’m not sure if we’ve reached a turning point or not.’ As the real world has altered so much, it just feels like a good moment to review what you had previously thought.’
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Netflix Updates
Season five’s official teaser trailer has been revealed, so may the Lord open the heavens and all that jazz! Above, you can see it.
Gilead’s authorities appear to be seeking vengeance for the killing of Commander Fred Waterford, based on the latest footage. With her husband Luke Bankole by her side, the runaway handmaid is obviously feeling the weight of her acts and their incomplete nature when we follow up with her in Canada.
As a bereaved wife, I want her to know it was me who called.” In reference to Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), who we see out to turn the tables and smoke out her husband’s murderer, June narrates that “she knows the world is watching…
The battle has begun.
As soon as the official full-length trailer is out, we’ll let you know right here on the site.
Handmaid’s Tale is available in the United States on Hulu and in the UK on Channel 4.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Trailer On Hulu
Just two months before the new season premieres, Hulu has published a teaser trailer. Scenes of a vindicated June are juxtaposed with Serena’s grief as she stands over the casket of Commander Waterford. It’s not until the two ultimately meet that we witness Serena tampering with June’s mind.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Will Become The Last Season Or Not?
At this point, we don’t know for sure. Bruce Miller, the show’s creator, stated in an August 2021 interview with Deadline that he is “never aiming to finish it. “
Our team consists of wonderful authors, talented actors and directors, as well as our in-house staff. It’s a pleasure to work with them all.” They did a wonderful job this year,” he told the newspaper.
Having said that, he did state that he is aware of the outcome. Elisabeth Moss is one of the best writers in the business, so “I’m not going to overstay my welcome, but I’m also not going to rush off if I don’t have to.”
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Where Can I Watch This Show?
First through fourth seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale can only be viewed on Hulu. Hulu is the place to go if you want to watch the show on your laptop. Additionally, you may catch all three seasons via the iPhone or Android applications. A month-long free trial is available for first-time customers. After the trial period ends, you may continue to use the service for as little as $6.99 a month after that.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Based On Novel?
For those of you who have ever wondered how Gilead came to be, the novel The Handmaid’s Tale, written by Margaret Atwood, provides a wealth of information on Gilead’s history.
Having read The Handmaid’s Tale is not a prerequisite for reading The Testaments, the author’s follow-up to it. More over 15 years after the events of the original novel, Gilead is still a tight society, but it is crumbling. Their lives are pulled together for a larger purpose in The Testaments.
Handmaid’s Tale: A Second Story will be developed as a TV series by Hulu/MGM as a “essential continuation” to The Handmaid’s Tale, according to a statement released in September 2019. Unless, of course, you’re averse to spoilers, it’s a good idea to know where the plot is heading.

One of the best television shows I’ve ever seen in my life. Most of the time, the incidents leave me feeling sick to my stomach. I have no idea how to express the impact this show has had on my thinking; it’s incredible that a show on television can have that big of an impact. As eerie and unsettling as the narrative is, I am hooked and can’t get enough of it.
Just by watching the performers and actresses, you can see how talented they are. The fourth season is already fantastic, and I eagerly await the release of the fifth. I’m overjoyed to learn that there will be a The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5, and I strongly encourage you to watch it. You can’t afford to miss a single second!
