Carnival announced a sequel film titled Seven Kings Must Die a few months after the news came that The Last Kingdom would be concluding with season 5.

It is now shooting in Hungary with some cast members from the television series returning to reprise their roles for Seven Kings Must Die.
Marchant’s idea for this follow-up special is more like an epilogue than the beginning of a new period for The Last Kingdom, so fans should not get their hopes up for a full 10-episode season.
As he put it, “Season 5 seems like the last season of the TV show, and the movie will be much more solo.” There’s no need to be a fan to enjoy it, but if you haven’t watched the TV series, you can still enjoy it. “
Is Novels The Inspiration For The Last Kingdom Season 6?
The first book in The Saxon Stories series is titled The Last Kingdom. There are 13 novels in all, beginning with The Last Kingdom and ending with War Lord. The last book in the series, War Lord (due out in 2020), concludes Uhtred’s saga.

Is The Last Kingdom Season 5 the Last Season?
Originally, the decision was made to end The Last Kingdom with season 5 as part of a long-term narrative plan that was outlined during the show’s inception.
While shooting the television production of The Last Kingdom, author Bernard Cornwell was working on the 10th novel in the series, The Last Kingdom.
Dreymon explains that the program wasn’t terminated as some fans had suspected, but that the creative team had always planned for it to conclude after its fifth season.
“That news release was a little misinterpreted,” he said. “It wasn’t a surprise to anybody since we had always intended to have just five seasons. Initially, there were only 10 novels in the series; as a result, it was the plot arc we had in mind… It went well, and I’m satisfied with the outcome.”
It was a “shared decision” between Carnival and Netflix, according to executive producer Marchant, which he believes was made at the “perfect moment.”
You “always want to remain on top and improve season after season, and 10 hours is… it’s a lot of tales you tell inside that,” he said in July 2021, referring to the length of the game.
“Our greatest difficulty is constantly finding new and creative methods to fight the good fight. How can we tell the stories of the conflicts in a way that makes you care about the characters, rather than simply seeing a bunch of people fighting? And how much further can you carry on with those two motifs until you reach a climactic point?”
Marchant went on to say: “Finally, we were looking for something that felt like it had a beginning and middle and a conclusion, and we think we’ve achieved both of those goals. It’s always better to curate that than to let it end without concluding the tale.”
