Fans have been wondering what the heck is going on ever since Netflix’s I Like To Watch YouTube channel aired (and quickly deleted) clips of The Sandman Season 2. two weeks ago that did not appear in the 10-episode first season. Did they get cut from an earlier draught? Did they come from a “bonus episode” we have yet to see? Given that the ten episodes only covered about a quarter of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel masterpiece, did it even confirm a second season? OK, so that’s the solution.

Netflix has confirmed that the leaked footage is in fact from a two-part bonus episode of The Sandman that will be available later today. The clips, which were accidentally released through the media conglomerate’s own Still Watching channel, showed enormous CGI cats playing with miniature humans in a way that will stay with viewers for a long time. The Sandman (Tom Sturridge, still looking like the missing member of My Chemical Romance) is briefly seen reconciling with an old flame. According to a press release, Netflix has not been scrambling behind the scenes to fix the leak, but rather has been planning this “surprise drop” for some time.

Fans of the comics quickly figured out that the events depicted in the episode took place in issues 17 and 18, meaning that they occurred directly after the events of season 1. For fans, seeing the classic “A Dream of a Thousand Cats” issue brought to life in a lucid blend of hand-drawn 2D animation, oil paintings, and 3D computer animation is worth the risk of never sleeping again.

For this special episode, Jenna Coleman, Charles Dance, and Mark Hamill in the role of a talking pumpkin will be joined by an even more impressive cast, including David Tennant, James McAvoy, Michael Sheen, and Derek Jacobi.

While the leak may have spoiled the episode’s intended surprise for viewers, nobody can stop them from being psyched for more adventures with Dream, Constantine, and Lucienne. The Sandman is still the most-watched show on the streaming service. Netflix’s commitment to The Sandman, which spans 75 issues of comics, is demonstrated by the existence of this special episode.

We are excited to see what other Sandman-related treats Netflix has in store for us.

The Sandman Season 2: Happen or Not?

Let’s hope that The Sandman doesn’t get stuck in development purgatory for another 30 years before we get to see more episodes. If we had to speculate, we’d say it won’t be long before Netflix gives the show the go-ahead for a second season. (Although, without a Marvel-style end-credits scene declaring that “The Sandman will return,” it’s impossible to know when the streamer will make the announcement.)

The Sandman Season 2: Storyline

It was hinted at in the final moments of The Sandman that the next season would concentrate on the fourth and fifth volumes of the graphic novel, Season of Mists and A Game of You.

When asked what was in store for season two, Gaiman told RadioTimes.com, “The second two graphic novels, which in this case are books four and five, with some bits of the short stories in book three scattered amongst other stuff.”

Dream returns to Hell, where Lucifer Morningstar is waiting for him, and causes havoc by giving up her throne and starting a new life on Earth, releasing her demons in the process.

The second centres on Lily Travers’s Barbie, a supporting character from season 1 who finally gets back to the Dreaming after being rescued by mythical steed Martin Tenbones.

The first season was very true to both Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll’s House, so any future seasons will likely do the same.

Morpheus is the film’s protagonist and the king of the dream realm in “Sandman,” which takes place in the 1990s and is a magical time capsule in its own right. And for 105 years, the occult ritual he participated in held his kingdom captive. After some time, Morpheus managed to get away and retake his throne. The first season was based on the first, second, and third halves of the first novel volume.

Season 2 of the TV show will premiere the third, fourth, and fifth volumes. Not much is known about the new season just yet, but fans can rest assured that there will be plenty of fantastical drama to keep them engaged.

The Sandman Season 2: Release Date

Production on the first season of The Sandman began in October 2020 and wrapped up in August 2022, a time span of almost two years.

Although it probably didn’t help that filming began during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, which would have greatly slowed down the production schedule.

Post-production work on a show like The Sandman is just as time-consuming as pre-production work on aspects like setting up physical sets and designing wearable costumes.

That being said, we anticipate an 18- to 24-month production cycle for a second season of The Sandman if the show is renewed. This would indicate that the release would occur in the spring or summer of 2024.

The Sandman Season 2 : Trailer

Is it too early to hope for a trailer for The Sandman Season 2? Without a doubt, that’s the case. We haven’t seen the first season yet, but we saw the trailer for it a month ago (in June 2022, hence the delay).

The Sandman Season 2 : Episodes

Season One’s 10 episodes only scratched the surface of Sandman’s original 75-issue run. Season of Mists, the fourth graphic novel in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series, is widely hailed as the author’s magnum opus of the series. (That’s a tease, huh?)

Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer is cooking up something truly diabolical, and Dream’s meddling relatives will play a larger role in future episodes, should they materialise.

Heinberg hinted that Dream might not return from Hell after all when he told Matthew, “I’m going to Hell and I may not come back,” at the end of the pilot episode. A rematch between Dream and Lucifer kicks off the second episode. That’s why it’s so juicy! I can’t wait to change Gwendoline’s appearance drastically. I don’t want to give anything away for those who haven’t read Season of Mists, but that’s when things start to go downhill for Dream.

Characters like Roger Allam’s demon lord Azazel and Deborah Oyelade’s Hell-bound woman Nada will have larger roles in Season of Mists. An entirely new cast of characters, including gods and demons, would have to be assembled. The Sandman Season 2 may, like Season 1, adapt stories from multiple graphic novels, making room for the Game of You story.

Heinberg elaborated, saying that he was looking forward to meeting the show’s “many characters who aren’t even human, who are talking animals,” should Game of You be produced. I can’t wait for the audience to meet Wanda, Foxglove, and Hazel, and Lenny Henry is fantastic as Martin Tenbones.

Following Rose Walker’s eccentric boarders, the story would introduce Wanda (a major trans character in The Sandman) and many other fantastic creatures that exist somewhere between dreams and reality. Now that the foundational ideas have been laid, the creative team can hopefully take liberties.

The Sandman season 2 : Ratings

Fans of The Sandman on Netflix are enthusiastic and have taken to social media in droves to express their desire for a second season.

Followers on Twitter wished for a speedy return of Dream of the Endless after the streaming giant announced that The Sandman was the highest rated Netflix series in 89 countries. Several posters illustrated their points with clips from the Season 1 finale, in which Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer Morningstar hinted that she was hatching a plot against Morpheus. Some viewers also highlighted their favourite episodes from The Sandman’s run, with the expectation that future seasons will live up to or even exceed them.

The Sandman Season 2 : Review

First season was fantastic, and I eagerly anticipate the second. Really, truly, really, really, hope there’s a Season 2! I’m so drawn into this universe that I want to explore it further by reading the comics or listening to the audio book.
